They may not exactly be Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, but Jonesboro City Council member Randy Segner says Atlanta-based Beatles cover band, The Buggs, are pretty close to the real thing.

They’ve been together as a band for approximately eight years and they dress like The Beatles. They also sing The Beatles’ songs, including “She Loves You,” “Penny Lane, “Yesterday” and “A Hard Day’s Night” are part of their repertoire. But the thing is, they are not the real McCoy. They are recent college graduates who bill themselves as “The” Beatles tribute band for the Atlanta area.

“They’ve been playing for awhile, but it's starting to become more of a moneymaker for them,” said Segner, whose second cousin, Charles Boehmig, plays Paul McCartney for the band. “They all have other jobs, but they are really good and they play at Atlantic Station one Friday of every month.”

Segner is pitching a concert by The Buggs, in Jonesboro, to his fellow council members and he has gotten a lot of interest from them in return. He is pitching the concert to take place July 28, at Lee Street Park, in Jonesboro. The council is scheduled to vote on approving the concert during its business meeting on Monday, at 7 p.m., at the Jonesboro Police Department, at 170 South Main Street.

The councilman said he hopes the concert could lead to a rebirth of the city’s defunct Summer concert Series, which was eliminated after the 2010 series as part of budget cuts in the town.

“The [city’s recent] jazz concert went off so well that we should try it again, except this time it wouldn’t be jazz that’s performed,” Segner told his fellow council members.

....Most of the Original Fans of The Beatles has retired or became senior citizens, the rest are country music fans, hip hop, or rappers fans in this county.

As a 57 yr old African American, I grew up with the Beatles, as well as many other groups, so don't get me wrong. The demographics of Clayton County does not support this...especially a knock-off. Where's the money coming from to sponsor this event?

.....The Sixties was the best decade of the century. American Music had reached the very top of the mountain with our American Music Culture.

....American Rock N Roll and Rhythm & Blues was a decade of celebration, that spread all over the world, including Great Britain and The Beatles. This American Music still lives on today.

....A lot boundaries was crossed during my generation during the sixties.

...What happened during the fifties got bogged down, in the Southern Bible Belt States, but, it still carried on during the Sixties. The Beatles was one of the clean cut groups that was accepted; Just like Pat Boone's versions of Little Richard's songs and Johnny Rivers' versions of Chuck Berry's songs.

.....When any common bonds, in our American music culture, has been lost, we have lost our Nation. This is what happened when the music died; Now, we are left with nothing but memories from the past.
