What does the “good life” mean to you?
Does it mean a child jumping through a sprinkler system during the height of summer, or a weathered old woman gently rocking back-and-forth in a chair? Perhaps it is straight A’s on a report card, or bowling a perfect 300.
Whatever it is, the officials at Arts Clayton are asking local artists to submit their interpretations for “The Good Life” juried art competition that is set to go on display this fall.
“It’s a year-long exhibit that will be on display at Spivey Station [Surgical Center, in Jonesboro] that focuses on the theme of a good life,” said Arts Clayton Gallery Assistant Courtney Fort. “What we’re doing is asking for pieces that shows what the good life — or a good life, I guess I should say — means to the artist.”
The deadline for submitting photos of artwork intended to be competition entries is Aug. 1, according to the application form for the contest. Fort explained the entry fee is $25 for Arts Clayton exhibiting artists, and $30 for non-exhibiting artists. Artists will be notified after Aug. 8, if their artwork has been accepted for the show, and the exhibit is set to be on display at Spivey Station from Sept. 20, 2012, till Aug. 24, 2013.
“And, it’s open to any artist — as long as they live in Georgia, and are over the age of 16,” Fort said. So far, she said, no one has submitted entries for the competition.
The first-place winner is slated to receive $300, while the second-place winner gets $200, and the third-place recipient wins $100. The competition winners are slated to be announced at the Sept. 20 opening reception.
