The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting at a Morrow apartment complex that sent an assault victim to the hospital, said Clayton County police.
Sgt. Tracy Jakes said the shooting victim held off police for several hours Saturday evening inside a unit at Sandlewood Apartments on Mount Zion Road. Jakes said the man, who has not been identified, assaulted a female at the residence before retreating into the apartment.
Jakes said officers tried without success to make contact with the man.
While he was barricaded inside the unit, officers discovered the suspect had outstanding warrants from DeKalb County. They then secured warrants for his arrest for the most recent alleged assault, she said.
Two hours later, police entered the unit and shots were fired when they encountered the suspect, said Jakes.
“No officers were injured in the incident,” she said.
Jakes said the suspect was taken to the hospital for treatment.
As is the standard procedure, the shooting incident has been turned over to the GBI for investigation, she said.
