Clayton County police said a local business was a front for illegal drug activity, and arrested three people on marijuana charges.
Lt. Chris Windley said the trio was arrested Tuesday at about 3 p.m., during a search warrant executed at M&M Variety Store at 620 South Commercial Parkway, near Jonesboro.
The bust was made by the police Narcotics Unit and the Strategic Method Against Street Harm division, known as SMASH.
Police arrested Cedric Vachon Smith, 35, of Lithonia; Frederick Maxwell, IV, 39, of Atlanta; and Amanda Nichole Davis, 23, of Stockbridge. All three are charged with felony possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. They are being held in the Clayton County Jail, pending a bond hearing.
Police also seized about $2,551 in cash and 1.3 pounds of marijuana, said Windley.
“We are still completing an investigation on other possible crimes,” he said.
Because the bust originated from a tip by a concerned citizen, Chief Greg Porter said the arrests are a good example of teamwork between his department and the community.
“This investigation defines the ongoing commitment between the Clayton County Police Department and the community in which it serves through the department’s strong Community Oriented Policing initiatives,” said Porter.
