Gerald R. Benton, 28, of Atlanta, died Feb. 21, 2012 at his home in Vogelweh, Germany. Sgt. 1st Class Gerald Rashad Benton was born on Nov. 11, 1983, in Georgia. He enlisted in the United States Army in 2001.

He enjoyed riding his Suzuki GXR 1000 motorcycle and checking out luxury cars. He also found great pleasure in rebuilding old cars and traveling around the world with his wife, LaToya. Most of all, Gerald loved spending time with his daughters, Shimiya and Alayah, along with son, Eric. The Lord and his family were both very near and dear to Gerald.

He is survived by his mother, Freda White, of Jonesboro; wife, LaToya Benton, of Mobile, Ala.; a host of brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, and special friends. His father, Charles Benton, preceded him in death.

Viewing of Gerald will be held Thursday, March 8, from 7 p.m., to 8 p.m., at Ford-Stewart Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 9,

at 11 a.m., at Restoration of Life Through Jesus Christ, located at 7341 Tara Blvd., Jonesboro, Ga., 30236. Burial honors will be at the Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Veterans Cemetery Road, in Canton, Ga., immediately following the services.
