Clayton County Public Schools' Pre-K registration for the 2012-2013 Pre-k Lottery will be held at each Pre-k site, through Friday, March 9. The child must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1, to qualify for Georgia's Pre-K Program. Regular registration hours are 8:30 a.m., to 11:30 a.m., and 1 p.m., to 4 p.m., on Wednesday, and Friday. Extended registration hours are Thursday, March 8, from 1 p.m., to 6 p.m. Acceptance into Clayton County Public Schools' Pre-k classes will be based on a “computer-generated” lottery system for each site, with priority given to children residing within the individual school attendance areas. Parents may register their child for only one Clayton County Public Schools Pre-k site.

Arnold Elementary’s Beta Club will host a Men's Clothing Drive Wednesday, March 7 at the school, located at 216 Stockbridge Road, in Jonesboro. For more information, call (770) 473-2800.

Saturday, March 10

Jonesboro Middle School will host a “Parent Academy” Saturday, March 10, from 9 a.m., to noon. The event will take place at the school, located at 1308 Arnold Street, in Jonesboro. Parents will receive tips on helping students prepare for the Career Criterion Reference Competency Test (CRCT); how Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and Title 1 affect a student’s education; how to check student’s grades before progress reports, and tips on study-skill strategies that will help students become successful at school. The Clayton’s Got Talent Show will be held Saturday, March 10, at 3 p.m., at the Performing Arts Center, at 2530 Mt. Zion Parkway, in Jonesboro. Tickets are $5 at middle and high schools throughout the county, and $10 at the door. Contact Rhonda Burnough, at rhonda.burnough@clayton.k12.ga.us.

Anabel Sanchez-Bustamante, of Jonesboro, was among five Young Harris College students recently inducted into the Omega Tau chapter of the international communication studies honor society, Lambda Pi Eta. Lambda Pi Eta is the official communication studies honor society of the National Communication Association (NCA).

Election to membership in Lambda Pi Eta is open to undergraduates enrolled as communication studies majors, or minors, with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, with 60 credit hours completed, and 3.25 for communication studies courses with 12 credit hours completed. Sanchez-Bustamante, a junior communication studies major at Young Harris College, is a graduate of Lovejoy High School. She is the daughter of Celso Sanchez and Josefina Bustamante, of Jonesboro.

Air Force Reserve Airman Donald Winston, Jr., has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, in San Antonio, Texas. Winston is a 2007 graduate of Mount Zion Christian Academy, and is the son of Donald Winston, of Stockbridge.

Air Force Reserve Airman Kristin Henderson has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, in San Antonio, Texas. Henderson is a 2010 graduate of Riverdale High School, and is the daughter of Stephanie Barber and Lynn Henderson, of Riverdale.

The Clayton County Public Library System offers many services to students, including online practice tests and tutorials in math, reading and writing, as well as test-preparation materials for the SAT, ASVAB, GED, TOEFFL, and Occupational Aptitude Tests.
