Clayton State offering free income tax assistance


The grand opening and ribbon cutting for the Veterans Resource Center (VRC) at Clayton State University will be held Friday from 11:30 a.m. to noon in Student Center Room 115 located on the Clayton State University main campus in Morrow. An Open House will follow until 1 p.m.


Accounting students from the College of Business at Clayton State University will offer free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the College of Business Building. The final two VITA dates for 2012 will be Saturdays, March 24 and 31. Taxpayers will be assisted on a first-come, first-served basis. If taxpayers have further questions, contact the VITA hotline at (678) 466-4527. Spanish translators are available, but must be scheduled in advance.


The Morrow High School Council will conduct a meeting on at 6 p.m., in the media center at Morrow High, located at 2299 Old Rex Morrow Road, in Morrow.


Lovejoy High School Marching Band will present a play titled, "Why You Playin'?" on Saturday, March 25, at 6 p.m. at the Clayton County Performing Arts Center. Band students will take center stage beside seasoned actors as they emphasize social issues, such as the need for organ donors, the importance of early detection of prostate and colon cancer, building strong family relationships, and the benefits of arts in education. Clayton County Library Systems Lovejoy Branch Library will host a “Spring Yard Sale” on Saturday, April 21, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Featured items may include gently used clothes, books, food and much more. Air Force Reserve Airman Alexander Bray, has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, in San Antonio, Texas. Winston is a 2009 graduate of Community Christian School, and is the son of Barbara and Gregory Bray, of Jonesboro.

Army Pvt. Daniel Lewers has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Sill, in Lawton, Okla. Henderson is a 2010 graduate of Lovejoy High School, and is the son of Erica McQueen, of Hampton.


The Clayton County Public Library System offers many services to students, including online practice tests and tutorials in math, reading and writing, as well as test-preparation materials for the SAT, ASVAB, GED, TOEFFL, and Occupational Aptitude Tests.
