Piedmont Henry Hospital is planning to purchase equipment, designed to increase safety for patients and employees. The medical facility is able to take the action, in part, because of a $50,000 grant from the Chaparral Foundation, a funding agency based in Texas.
Hospital employees’ efforts have boosted the total money raised to $130,000 since last year. The money will be used to buy lift assist devices, according to Piedmont Henry’s Public Relations Specialist, Michelle Nunnally.
“These devices are designed to improve patient care, and reduce the risk for injury to hospital staff,” Nunnally said.
She added the purchase is also made possible by record-breaking charitable employee donations to the hospital Foundation, during the 2011 Employee Campaign.
“Staff demonstrated its support of the hospital’s SHAPE (Safe Handling Always — Patients & Employees) initiative by donating $80,000,” said Nunnally.
Adam Stanfield, director of philanthropy at the hospital, said Piedmont Henry’s goal is “to improve the patient experience while reducing injuries associated with moving patients.”
“From a Foundation perspective, we were excited to be a part of this campaign, as the initiative essentially touches every part of our hospital,” Stanfield said.
He added that the Chaparral Foundation has funded several hospital initiatives for a number of years, including the purchase of a passenger van for the Laurel Park nursing home, and a birthing simulator for the Marcia G. Taylor Women’s Center at Piedmont Henry.
