Clayton State University may be the place to be for many of the county’s youths during spring break this year.
John Shiffert, director of university relations, said the school’s athletic department will be hosting a Spring Break Soccer Camp at Laker Field on Clayton State’s campus, from Monday, April 2, to Friday, April 6, the same time that Clayton County Public Schools will be on spring break.
He said the camp will be run by Clayton State men’s head soccer coach, Pete Petersen, and women’s head coach, Gareth O’Sullivan, and is open to boys and girls, ages 6 to 17.
“There is a choice between the full-day camp and the half-day camp, with the full-day camp costing $125, and half-day camp costing $65,” said Shiffert.
He said the full-day camp runs from 9 a.m., to 4 p.m., each day, while the half-day camp goes from 9 a.m., to noon.
Clayton State’s soccer camps, Shiffert said, are designed to develop individual skills and techniques, including passing, dribbling, ball control and shooting, as well as team tactics. The camps combine small group instruction with game play, he said, to ensure development of fundamental skills and game knowledge.
