Man sought in child's injury arrested

The Clayton County Fugitive Unit has arrested a man sought since August, when police said he caused a crash that paralyzed a 3-year-old boy.

Sheriff's Lt. Brian Crisp said fugitive investigators caught up with Alberto Gomez-Morales, 30, at the Saratoga Springs Apartments in Duluth. He was taken into custody before he could get into his vehicle, said Crisp.

Gomez is charged with aggravated battery, hit and run, and driving without a license. He is being held without bond in the Clayton County Jail. His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing set for April 12.

Crisp said the original incident happened Aug. 26 in front of a residence on Rockcut Road in Forest Park, when Gomez got into his truck and tried to leave after an argument with his girlfriend. Police said Gomez pulled into the road, causing Susanna Leticia Partida-Martinez to hit the back of his truck. Partida-Martinez was traveling with her son, Edgar Velez, 3. The impact propelled the child into the windshield, severing his spinal cord, said Crisp.

Gomez fled the scene.

Gomez also has an outstanding probation violation warrant out of Locust Grove, said Crisp.
