Mrs. Lena Green Byington
Mrs. Lena Green Byington, of Jonesboro, passed away March 26, 2012, at the age of 90. Lena was born Sept. 2, 1921 in Forsyth County, Ga., to her parents, Floy Hill Green and Walter Green.
Most of Lena's married life was spent in Forest Park, where she raised her family. She was a wonderful, Christian mother and wife. She was a member of Forest Park First Baptist Church for nearly 60 years. Her second career began as a sales representative for the Rich's (Macy's) department store where she worked for 25 years. She also worked for Genuine Parts (NAPA) in Atlanta for many years when she first married. Lena now rests in God's everlasting arms. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floy Hill Green and Walter Green; her husband, James Augustus Byington; and her brothers, Walter "Bill" Green and Leon Green.
She is survived by her daughters, Joy Redmond (Bill), of Marietta, Jimmie Jenkins (Terry), of Conyers, and Jane Chaffin (Ron), of Covington; sisters, Laura Meese, of Riverdale, Jessie Brown, of Atlanta, and Dorothy Latta, of Burlington, N.C.; grandchildren, Renee Westmoreland, of Alpharetta, Jamie Redmond, of Littleton Colo., Lori Dawson, of Clarkston, Ga., Kelly Jenkins, of Midville, Tiffany Chaffin, of Orlando, Fla., and Wesley Chaffin, of Covington, Ga.; and great-grandson, Alex Westmoreland, of Alpharetta.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 29, at 2 p.m., at Forest Park First Baptist Church. She will lie in-state starting at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. Dr. Reed Crumbliss will officiate. The family will receive friends TODAY (Wednesday), from 5 p.m., to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Thomas L.
