Mundy’s Mill pitcher Corey Harmon uses a wet towel to cool off in between playoff games on Friday. He helped the Tigers defeat visiting Jones County 11-1 in six innings after throwing seven strikeouts and giving up only one hit. It was Mundy’s Mill first state playoff victory since 2008.
Mundy’s Mill and Jones County will meet Saturday for Game 3 of the first round of the Class AAAA playoffs.

In the first game, Tigers senior pitcher Cory Harmon had seven strikeouts and gave up only two hits as Mundy's Mill won 11-1 in six innings.
Luella 12-5, Coffee 7-4
The Lions had to work for their first round Class AAAAA sweep of visiting Coffee.
No. 4 Luella (21-6) awaits the winner of Grayson-Peachtree Ridge, who split their doubleheader Friday.
Senior Eric Pape led the way in Luella’s 12-7 victory. He finished 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Chase Scott went 2-for-3 and Vincent Jackson went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Senior starting pitcher Matt Kelley earned the win.
The Lions held on in Game 2 for a 5-4 win thanks to Kendall Hill. The senior lefty pitched 3 1/3 innings in relief the get the save.
D.J. Carlisle went 2-for-4 with a double, Scott finished 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Pape added an RBI.
ELCA 9-8, Commerce 0-2
Solid pitching and clutch hitting paced the Chargers to a sweep of No. 10-ranked Commerce.
ELCA (22-5) advances to play Holy Innocents on Wednesday.
The Chargers got a strong pitching performance from senior Kevin Martin in a 9-0 victory in Game 1. Martin pitched six shutout innings and Larson Gailes closed the game with a perfect seventh.
Patrick Busscher lasted five innings to get the win in an 8-2 victory in Game 2 despite getting into trouble early.
ELCA trailed 2-0 going into the third inning, but tied the game in the fourth and broke it open in the sixth. Gailes pitched two shutout innings to end the game.
Cross Creek 6-10, Locust Grove 3-11
AUGUSTA — Thanks to Bo Danekes, the Wildcats live to play another day.
Danekes hit a game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh inning to score Cortez McDowell and give Locust Grove a wild 11-10 victory over Cross Creek in Game 2 in their Class AAA first round series.
Game 3 will be at 1 p.m. today.
After losing 6-3 in Game 1, the Wildcats (14-11) fell behind 9-0 after two innings in Game 2. But Locust Grove battled back, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, punctuated by Danekes’ clutch single.
Eagle’s Landing 8, Grovetown 0
The Lady Golden Eagles cruised to a win in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs.
Eagle’s Landing (13-5) hosts No. 7-ranked Carrollton (12-5-1), a 3-0 winner over No. 8 Grady, on Wednesday.
Locust Grove 5, Richmond Academy 3
AUGUSTA — The Lady Wildcats made school history with their first state playoff victory ever in the Class AAA first round.
Locust Grove will play the inner of Woodward Academy-LaGrange
Strong Rock Christian 3, Providence Christian 2
The Lady Patriots advanced out of the Class A play-in game with a close victory.
Strong Rock will play at Pace Academy on Wednesday.
