Pope Dickson & Son Funeral Home closed its locations in Jonesboro and Morrow Friday after more than six decades in business.
The economy and poor health of owner Abner P. Dickson, Jr., were contributing factors in closing the family-owned funeral home, according to Ed Wise, one of Pope Dickson’s managers.
“The mom and pop funeral homes are a thing of the past,” he said.
According to Wise, the decision to close the home, which was in business for 66 years, was made a month and a half ago. Pope Dickson stopped accepting new business at the end of April but will finish all work in progress.
Funded pre-need services as well as non-funded services have been transferred to another family-owned home, Thomas Scroggs Funeral Directors. Those who would prefer a different home can contact Scroggs at (770) 961-2828, stop by the home’s Morrow location, or visit www.thomasscroggsfuneraldirectors.com.
