Jeff Hurndon Photography Union Grove junior Briana Vaughn won the 100 and 200-meters events in Class AAAA last weekend in Albany.
Eagle’s Landing teammates Shantia Wilson and Gabby Roth won a gold medal apiece, while Union Grove’s Briana Vaughn won two at the recent Georgia High School Association track and field championships in Albany.
Wilson won Class AAA’s 800-meters on Saturday during the running finals, while Roth opened the meet with a victory in the 1,600. Roth, a freshman, placed third in the 3,200 the next day.
Vaughn, a junior, captured the 100 and 200 events in Class AAAA.
In the 100 event at Hugh Mills Stadium, the top three spots were by a Southern Crescent participant. Placing second behind Vaughn was North Clayton junior Lorenda Holston, while Woodland freshman DeAndra Greer was third.
Eagle’s Landing placed the highest among teams in the three-day event with the Golden Eagles placing third. Union Grove was seventh in AAAA.
In AAA, Eagle’s Landing amassed 39 points as second place Sandy Creek had 40 points. Monroe-Albany won the classification with 67 points.
Hannah Billups of Eagle’s Landing was third in the high jump and Bria Matthews of Forest Park was third in the triple jump.
Jonesboro’s S’kayia Hampton placed sixth in both the 100 and 200 events.
