Former North Clayton product and UGA quarterback D.J. Shockley will help conduct a football camp next month at Eagle's Landing Christian Academy.
Former Georgia Bulldog and NFL players D.J. Shockley and Lindsay Scott will host a sports camp at Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy on June 9.
The all-day event is open to athletes ages 6-16; and regardless of whether they are aspiring to catch the attention of college and pro scouts, or just trying to learn how to catch, period, camp director Rachel Rudolf says there will be something there for everyone.
“We have a lot of kids who would like to play sports and will use this as an introduction, while some will want to get an advantage that makes them separate themselves from the crowd,” Rudolf said.
The camp will begin at 9 a.m. and will include lunch, autographs and pictures with the former pros and a flag football game with Shockley, a North Clayton High product, playing quarterback. Though the sports instruction is, no doubt, the camp’s most popular feature, Rudolf says it’s not just about kicking, catching, running and throwing.
“These camps aren’t only focused on football or on baseball. This is also about role modeling and leadership,” Rudolf said. “This is why we wanted players like D.J. He’s a great guy and great with the kids. We want to teach them about character as well as their ability, and how to be leaders as well as good, moral players.”
Shockey starred at Georgia from the 2001-2005, guiding the Bulldogs to the 2005 SEC title. He also played four seasons in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons. Scott — a first-round NFL draft pick in 1982 who played three years with the New Orleans Saints — is probably best known for his 92-yard touchdown catch and run to beat Florida in 1980 — the same year Georgia won the national title.
Camp registration is limited to the first 75 that register. The cost is $95. Campers can register at www.everettsm.com or by calling Rachel Rudolf directly at 864-350-1222.
Rudolf’s organization will also host a baseball camp with former Atlanta Braves Ryan Klesko and Brian Jordan on July 21at Red Hawk Baseball Complex in McDonough.
