The Clayton State University Athletics Department will have is first round of summer camps for Clayton County youth, starting next month.
On Monday, June 4, the summer will kick off with boys basketball and boys and girls tennis, said John Shiffert, director of university relations. “Also offered throughout the summer are girls basketball, boys and girls soccer and boys and girls speed development. The camps are for children and youth — ages 6 to 17,” said Shiffert.
The summer camps, he added, will take place at the Clayton State campus, in Morrow. He said participants will have the choice of attending a full-day camp, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., or a half-day camp 9 a.m. to noon. In addition, he said, participants will also have the option of combo camps — for example — basketball in the morning, soccer in the afternoon. Full-day camps cost $125, while half-day camps cost $65, he said.
“Clayton State summer athletic camps are designed to provide the highest-quality instruction in a safe, fun and socially-enriching environment,” said Shiffert. “The primary goal is for all campers to enjoy themselves while also learning and improving their skills.”
Shiffert said the daily activities will be led by Clayton State head coaches and they will focus on character-building aspects of each individual sport, including self-esteem, discipline and responsibility. “Our camps combine small-group instruction as well as game play to ensure development of fundamental skills and game knowledge,” he said.
