County: Eat spaghetti for elderly

— Clayton County residents will be able to help senior citizens this weekend by going a little Italian.

The county’s Senior Services Aging Program Advisory Board will hold its annual Meals On Wheels spaghetti dinner fundraiser at the J. Charley Griswell Senior Center, 2300 Ga. Hwy. 138 in Jonesboro, from 6 p.m., until 8 p.m., Friday. The program provides meals for 200 senior citizens in the county, according to the senior services program.

“Meals on Wheels plays an important role in Senior Service’s mission of enhancing the quality of life for Clayton County’s senior adult population by promoting healthy aging programs such as the home delivery meal program,” said program spokesperson Jamie Carlington in a written statement.

Although the dinner will carry an Italian theme, there was no mention in senior services’ statement about whether any county officials would entertain dinner guests by singing a tarantella. However, live entertainment will be available and door prizes will be given out.

Tickets for the dinner cost $10 and they can be purchased at the Senior Services Aging Office, 877 Battle Creek Road in Jonesboro.
