Jonesboro officers commended for crime prevention efforts

JONESBORO — Two Jonesboro police officers received letters of commendation from police Chief Franklin Allen Monday for taking the lead in stopping a burglary last month.

On Oct. 23, Sgt. Jonathon Smallwood and Officer Jonathon Gray responded to a burglary in progress at a home on Sunnybrook Drive. They were the first to arrive on the scene, and upon arrival, they saw two individuals running from the house, said Allen. He added Smallwood and Gray quickly set up a perimeter in an effort to surround the suspects. Clayton County police were assisting them.

One of the suspects was apprehended as a result of Smallwood and Gray’s efforts, the police chief said. He added nothing was taken from the home because the officers responded so quickly.

“Your hard work and efforts have made our community safer and you have successfully removed a criminal from the streets,” said Allen, to Smallwood and Gray. “It is service and commitments like this that makes our citizens proud of you and of our department.”

....Outstanding Job Fellows.........The Bad News is : Arrests holds little water without convictions, and convictions holds very little meanings to criminals, without having stiff penalties for their actions.

....Catching the Bad Guys is a start, let us see how the Judge rules on these Bad Guys.
