Gas station clerk shot in armed robbery

Suspect forces clerk to give up ATM card

COLLEGE PARK — Clayton County Police are searching for a gunman who they say shot a gas station clerk.

The incident happened early Saturday morning as the clerk was opening up the Shell gas station/convenient store, located at 5631 West Fayetteville Road in College Park, said Clayton Police spokesperson D. Rosa.

“He was coming in to open up that morning and as he was walking into the store he was approached by a man wearing a hockey mask,” Rosa said. “He pointed the gun at the clerk and told him to open up the safe.”

She said the clerk could not get the safe open.

“At that time, the unknown suspect forced the clerk to use his personal ATM card in a machine located inside the store to take money out,” Rosa added. “Once he got the money, he fired at the clerk, shooting him in the ankle.”

Police would not disclose the amount of money stolen.

Police said there were no customers inside the store at the time of the armed robbery.

Anyone with information about the shooting or the identity of the suspect is asked to call Clayton County Police at 770 477-3747.
