ELCA junior Bryson Durden was chosen to play in next month's Rising Seniors All-Star game.
Eight football players from Southern Crescent schools will showcase their talents in the 2012 Georgia Junior Bowl on Dec. 31, at Grady Stadium in Atlanta.
The junior standouts have been named to the Rising Senior All-Stars by the RisingSeniors.com selection committee.
The teams are divided into East and West divisions with Stockbridge cornerback/running back Kendarius Webster, Locust Grove wide receiver Cortez McDowell and Henry County running back Sedrick Palmer representing the East squad.
McDowell had 32 receptions for 701 yards and eight touchdowns. He also rushed for 216 yards and three touchdowns for a Locust Grove team that came a game short of a playoff berth.
Palmer was a bright spot for a Henry County team that won just one game. Meanwhile, Webster helps anchor No. 5 Stockbridge’s ball-hawking defense. The Tigers will play Wayne County in the second round of the playoffs tonight.
Andrew Williams and Bryson Durden, two defensive standouts for top-ranked Eagle’s Landing Christian, will lead the West. Lovejoy also had two defensive representatives in linebacker Demarquis Gates and defensive end Randy Anyanwu. Eagle’s Landing running back Corey Holloway round out the area’s representatives.
Gates has been big for No. 7 Lovejoy’s state title chase, registering over 60 tackles, including 10 for loss. Meanwhile, Holloway enjoyed a breakout season for the Golden Eagles, rushing for 1,435 yards and nine touchdowns on 180 carries.
