No fatal traffic accidents in Clayton

19 die statewide during holiday period

JONESBORO — Though the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) reported 19 fatal car accidents statewide during the extended Thanksgiving weekend, none occurred in Clayton County.

The GSP investigated 11 of the 19 fatal crashes that occurred between 6 p.m. Wednesday and midnight. The 102-hour Thanksgiving holiday travel period ended Sunday at midnight.

“State troopers investigated a total of 622 traffic crashes during the period that resulted in 263 injuries,” according to GSP spokesman Gordy Wright. “Of the 11 traffic deaths investigated by troopers, alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor in four of the crashes, and seven of the victims were not using seat belts.”

There was one fatal pedestrian collision investigated by troopers, said Wright.
