RIVERDALE— The congregation of Restoration Community Outreach Center has been collecting toys since February, according to the pastor of the church, Avary Kemp.
Kemp said his church has 482 toys to give to needy families for Christmas. He said this is the second year Restoration Community Outreach Center (RCOC) has held the annual event.
“We try to eliminate the red tape,” Kemp said. “We rely on people to tell us about others who need help. This year we were more effective getting the word out.”
The first distribution of the Christmas gifts will be done at the church Dec. 8, to families who have already pre-registered for the presents.
Registration for the second RCOC Give-a-way will be held Dec. 15, at K Corners Food Mart, located at 1637 Stockbridge Road in Jonesboro. The pastor said people can sign up to receive the Christmas gifts from noon until 2 p.m. They can pick-up the gifts at the same location Dec. 22.
“We are giving away toys to help parents provide a merry Christmas for their children during the season that is important to us as a church,” he said. “The birth of Christ is a gift to us all. So, we are using that as a road map into the hearts of the community.”
