TV actress to visit Mount Zion Primary to support literacy

JONESBORO — Popular television actress Ellia English will visit students at Mount Zion Primary School at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, to discuss the importance of reading and literacy and to link learning to the district’s goal of “Literacy Across the Curriculum,” said Principal Enika Bryant.

English may be best known for her appearance as “Aunt Helen” from the hit television series, “The Jamie Foxx Show.” She had a central role in the show, and was paired onscreen with Garrett Morris, who played her husband, “Junior King.”

The Covington native is also an acclaimed singer and stage actress that has starred in several theatrical productions on- and off-Broadway. Her many movie and television credits include — in addition to The Jamie Foxx Show — “Love in the Nick of Tyme,” “Cornered!” “Woke Up Dead,” “Matchups,” and her recurring role, “Good Luck Charlie,” that is seen on the Disney Channel.

English’s appointment at Mount Zion Primary is largely due to her sister, Katrina English, who works as an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) teacher at the school. Ellia English enrolled at Clark College in Atlanta, where she majored in music, and later transferred to Georgia State University to study speech and drama.
