Here’s a look at local high school volleyball teams in the state playoffs:
AAAAAA
Luella at Brunswick
Records, rankings, seedings: Luella is 9-11, the No. 3 seed from Area 2 and unranked; Brunswick is 3-15, the No. 2 seed from Area 1 and unranked.
What’s next: The winner of Johns Creek-Collins Hill.
Lovejoy at Camden County
When, where: Thursday, 5 p.m., at Camden County High School in Kingsland.
Records, rankings, seedings: Lovejoy is the No. 4 seed from Area 2 and unranked; Camden County is 31-15, the No. 1 seed from Area 1 and unranked.
What’s next: The winner of South Forsyth-Habersham Central.
What to know: Lovejoy is making its first state playoff appearance since 2008 when it was in Class AAAAA, then the state’s highest classification. Camden County’s Cali Jones (566 kills) leads the state in kills per game with 5.6.
AAAAA
Union Grove at Houston County
When, where: Thursday, 6:30 p.m., at Houston County High School in Warner Robins.
Records, rankings, seedings: Union Grove 26-15, the No. 4 seed from Area 4 and unranked; Houston County is 27-12, the No. 2 seed from Area 2 and unranked.
What’s next: The winner of Lakeside (Dekalb)-Lithia Springs.
What to know: Union Grove made it out of ultra-competitive Area 4-AAAAA, which was given five state playoff spots by the GHSA instead of the customary four. The Lady Wolverines feature a balanced attack with four players with over 100 kills in Emily Carr (100), Jasmine Babbs (104), Kelli Davis (103) and Jessica Swaney (133).
AAAA
Dutchtown at Sandy Creek
When, where: Today, 5:30 p.m., at Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone.
Records, rankings, seedings: Dutchtown is 12-13, the No. 4 seed from Area 4 and unranked; Sandy Creek is 32-19, the No. 1 seed from Area 3 and ranked No. 1.
What’s next: The winner of Walnut Grove-Heritage (Catoosa).
What to know: The Lady Bulldogs entered the season ranked, but quickly dropped out after starting the season 2-7. But Dutchtown rebounded once it got in the thick of area play and beat out an improved Riverdale team for the final playoff spot.
Fayette County at Jonesboro
When, where: Today, 5:30 p.m., at Jonesboro High School in Jonesboro.
Records, rankings, seedings: Fayette County is 5-12, the No. 3 seed from Area 3 and unranked; Jonesboro 28-6, the No. 2 seed from Area 4 and ranked No. 10.
What’s next: The winner of Southeast Whitfield-Lanier.
What to know: The Lady Cardinals lost in three straight games to Woodland in the Area 4-AAAA championship match. Jonesboro coach Dan Maehlman got his 400th career win earlier this season.
Locust Grove at Columbus
When, where: Today, 5 p.m., at Columbus High School in Columbus.
Records, rankings, seedings: Locust Grove is 19-15, the No. 3 seed from Area 4 and unranked; Columbus is 26-25, the No. 2 seed from Area 3 and ranked No. 4.
What’s next: The winner of Johnson (Gainesville)-Northwest Whitfield.
What to know: The Lady Wildcats reach the state playoffs again to face a Columbus team that won the Class AAA title in 2007 and features Chandler Barre (197 kills) and Brianna Gogins (148 kills). Setter Madison Fleming led the team with 510 assists.
Shaw at Woodland
When, where: Today, 5:30 p.m., at Woodland High School.
Records, rankings, seedings: Shaw is 25-9, the No. 4 seed from Area 3 and ranked No. 9; Woodland 37-3, the No. 1 seed from Area 4 and ranked No. 5.
What’s next: The winner of Dalton-Chestatee.
What to know: The list of Woodland’s accomplishments has been extensive this season. The Lady Wolfpack can add their first area championship ever (they finished runner-up once) and area player of the year (Pam Konken). Nicole Findura and Tierra Gardner were named first-team all-area.
AAA
Ringgold at Henry County
Records, rankings, seedings: Ringgold is the No. 4 seed from Area 4 and unranked; Henry County is 8-15, the No. 1 seed from Area 3 and unranked.
What’s next: The winner of St. Pius-Morgan County.
A
Gordon Lee at ELCA
When, where: Thursday, 5 p.m., at Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy in McDonough.
Records, rankings, seedings: Gordon Lee is 19-11, the No. 3 seed from Area 4 and unranked; ELCA is 19-20, the No. 2 seed from Area 3 and ranked No. 7.
What’s next: The winner of Savannah Christian-Greenville.
What to know: The defending state champions don’t have the record of a title contender, but they went through a regular season schedule to get prepared like one.
Strong Rock at Walker
Records, rankings, seedings: Strong Rock is 25-13, the No. 4 seed from Area 3 and unranked; Walker is 31-7, the No. 1 seed from Area 4 and ranked No. 1.
What’s next: The winner of Savannah Country Day-Central Talbotton.
What to know: What a sensational start — an 11-1 start to the season — and what a rocky end — 2-4 through the county and area tournament. But the Lady Patriots survived to reach the state playoffs for the second time since joining the GHSA.
