Clayton County Public Safety is popping the trunk for treats

JONESBORO — For the third year, trunks will pop open filled with Halloween treats at the Clayton County Courthouse.

Clayton County Sheriff’s Office Public Safety Trunk-o-treat is held annually and sponsored by the Clayton County Sheriff’s office, said the agency’s Assistant Chief S. Sutherland.

An estimated crowd of 550 to 600 children are expected to attend the Halloween event, Wednesday from 6 p.m., until 9 p.m., at the courthouse located at 9151 Tara Boulevard in Jonesboro.

Sutherland said last year more than 400 children participated in the event.

“A lot of our public safety agencies in the cities and county, along with district attorney’s office and solicitor’s office as well as our juvenile court, will be there,” Sutherland said. “We originally put it together, because there was not a single event where all of the public safety agencies in the county participated in a Halloween event.”

Sutherland said there will be horse rides, music, inflatables and face painting for the children.

“This gives all of the public safety agencies a chance to come together to offer a safe environment for trick- or- treaters,” he added.
