JONESBORO City leaders will decide next week whether they will annex a towing company located on the southeast edge of Jonesboro.
The owners of Tara Wrecker Inc. asked the city to annex 5.05 acres at 9140 Turner Road, which is where the business is located, said Jonesboro Mayor Joy Day. She said the city limits already cut through part of the Tara Wrecker property, prompting the business’ request to city leaders.
“A portion of their property is already in the city, but they would like to have all of their property located in the city,” said Day.
The city council will vote next Monday on the towing company’s request during the monthly council business meeting, at 7 p.m., at the Jonesboro Police Department, 170 South Main Street. Council members expressed only modest concern about the proposal Tuesday during a work session, but they did not indicate they were planning to reject the request.
Their concerns focused on large trucks from Tara Wrecker driving through the city. No representatives of the company attended the work session to answer questions. Day said company officials are expected to attend next week’s business meeting to answer any questions from city officials and residents, however.
