RIVERDALE — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is continuing its probe into a shooting on Labor Day.
Clayton County Police were called to a home in 6000 block of Yellow Wood Court in Riverdale at 4:48 p.m., Monday, in response to a “demented person call,” according to Clayton County Police spokesperson, officer C. Ashmore.
The responding officers watched as the 22-year-old man held a knife to his throat, said police.
“A male suspect was acting irrationally and making threatening comments, while burning items in his yard,” explained Ashmore. “Officers made several attempts to gain compliance from the male suspect to drop the weapon, with no results. The male suspect made threatening movements and verbal threats, which led to the officers using force.”
Police declined to give the name of the suspect, nor the name of the hospital where he is recovering from the shooting.
Ashmore said police have not determined if there will be any charges filed against the man.
“It is standard procedure for the Clayton County Police Department to request the GBI to investigate officer-involved shootings,” said GBI spokesperson John Bankhead. “By law, we have to be requested.”
