Constitution, Tasers and annexation, oh my!

Jonesboro City Council has full plate Monday

JONESBORO — Residents will get to voice their opinion Monday on whether the Jonesboro City Council should approve a request to annex a towing business when city leaders gather for their monthly business meeting.

The council will meet at 7 p.m., at the Jonesboro Police Headquarters, 170 South Main St., in Jonesboro.

Council members are weighing a request from the owners of Tara Wreckers to annex 5 acres of their property, which lines on the southeast edge of the city. The town limits currently go through part of the property, and Jonesboro Mayor Joy Day said the business’ owners want to shore up the limits so all of their property is within the city.

The annexation request is not the only thing the council will deal with, however. Council members will consider replacing the police department’s Tasers and one police patrol car. They will also consider an amendment to city law concerning conditional zoning permits.

The Augustin Clayton Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will also receive a proclamation from the city for the upcoming “Constitution Week.”

Residents will also get to address the council during a public comment section at the beginning of the meeting.
