McDONOUGH — Junior Cortez McDowell was all over the field Friday in Locust Grove’s 35-28 win over visiting rival Ola.

The first meeting between the two schools could be classified as an instant classic as Garrett Wallace scored the game-winning touchdown with a 4-yard run in the closing minutes.

After Ola wide receiver/running back Jo Jo Spann tied the score at 28-28 on his fourth touchdown of the game, Wallace capped a two-play drive with the game-winning touchdown.

On the first play of the drive, Wallace ran for 67 yards to set up his touchdown.

As Ola attempted to at least tie, McDowell intercepted a pass to seal the win. In addition to his interception, he had three touchdown receptions. McDowell had touchdowns of 18, 13 and 38 yards.

Spann scored all four of the Mustangs’ touchdowns. He had two touchdown runs and scored on a kickoff and punt return.

Spann’s kickoff, touchdown and punt touchdowns came within a two-minute span between the first and second quarters.

Both teams are 1-1.

Strong Rock 14, Clarkston 6

Jordan Spruill and Zack Moss each scored for Strong Rock to lead the Patriots to the win over Clarkston on Friday in a non-region game at Hallford Stadium in DeKalb County.

Spruill, a fullback, had 102 yards on 25 carries, including a 1-yard touchdown run. Moss, a quarterback, scored on a 45-yard run for the Patriots, who improved to 2-0 for the first time in school history.

Moss finished with 85 yards rushing on 10 carries.

Clarkston, a Class AAAAA school playing a non-region schedule against mostly lower-classification teams, dropped to 0-3. The Angoras’ losing streak reached five games.

Strong Rock will travel to Soperton next week to take on Treutlen.

“That will be a big test for us,” Strong Rock coach Matt Miller said. “I don’t think we are rolling, but we are moving in the right direction.”

Stockbridge 13, Upson-Lee 3

Maetron Thomas got the Tigers on the scoreboard first as they cruised to the non-region win in Thomaston. Malik Bryan sealed the win with a fourth-quarter touchdown run as the Tigers improved to 1-1.

Upson-Lee dropped to 0-2.

Up next for Stockbridge is its first home game against Columbia next week.

Union Grove 22, Woodland 14

Senior Derrick Craine scored all three of the Wolverines’ touchdowns as they improved to 2-0, heading into next week’s game against Whitewater. It is the first time since 2009 that the Wolverines have started the season 2-0 since winning their first seven games of that season.

Woodland drops to 1-1 heading into next week’s home game against Woodward Academy.

Lamar County 41, Eagle’s Landing 30

Corey Holloway and Bill Teknipp accounted for two touchdowns each for the Golden Eagles, who fall to 0-2 on the season.

Teknipp had two touchdown receptions while Holloway had two rushing touchdowns. The Golden Eagles tried to battle from a 22-6 halftime deficit on the road.

Eagle’s Landing linebacker Shawanye Lawrence had 11 solo tackles and three sacks.
