JONESBORO — Officials from the City of Jonesboro Monday night officially proclaimed the week of Sept. 17 to be Constitution Week in the city, joining in a nationwide commemoration of the 225th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution.
Mayor Joy Day issued a Constitution Week proclamation to Mary Ann Moore and Mary Ann Hawkins, who attended the City Council meeting as representatives of the Augustin Clayton Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Moore and Hawkins are members of the chapter’s Constitution Week committee, and they had asked the city for a formal recognition of the celebration.
“It is fitting and proper to accord official recognition to this magnificent document, and its memorable anniversary and to the patriotic celebrations which will commemorate the occasion,” said Day, as she read the proclamation aloud.
