Riverdale linebacker Troy Wyche is being considered on the Clayton News Daily Player of the Year watch list.
1T. Travis Custis, Lovejoy: The senior continues to make a strong case for himself for the player of the year honors as the Wildcats rolled over East Coweta last week. The running back, who has committed to Georgia Tech, had 158 yards rushing on 24 carries last week. It was the second straight game that he has had at least 150 yards on the ground.
1T. Cameron Sutton, Jonesboro: The multi-talented senior continues to be a dominating force on both sides of the ball for the Cardinals this season. He has scored on offense, defense and special teams as the Cardinals have climbed to No. 7 in the latest Associated Press rankings. As a wide receiver, he has 12 catches for 288 yards and two touchdowns. He also has two rushing touchdowns on the season.
3. Patrick Petty, Jonesboro: The senior running back has been a big boost in the Cardinals running game. Not only has he been solid for the Cardinals rushing attack, Petty has also been effective as a pass receiver this season. Last week, he had a 63-yard touchdown reception in a win over Eagle’s Landing. He has also contributed as a safety on the defense.
4. Alejandro Bennifield, Lovejoy: The senior has thrown for over a 100 yards in all four games this season for the Wildcats. A Tennessee-Chattanooga commitment, he passed for 170 yards and two touchdowns against East Coweta last week. He directs an offense that features several Div. I-caliber players.
5. Troy Wyche, Riverdale: Despite the Raiders shutout loss and drop from the Associated Press rankings, the senior moves onto the watch list. In the Raiders’ loss at Dutchtown last week, the linebacker had nine tackles. He is being recruited by several Div. I schools including Indiana and Southern Miss.
