Four face murder indictment in armed robbery

JONESBORO — Three adults and a juvenile were indicted on felony murder charges Wednesday by a Clayton County Superior Court grand jury.

Laferriyona Nokia Mathis, David Christopher Spratling Jr., Demarkus Devon King and a juvenile unidentified because of her age are accused of killing Omar Brown during an armed robbery they planned, according to the indictment.

Mathis, Spratling, King and the juvenile conspired to rob Brown by luring him to a meeting arranged by Mathis and the juvenile, using text messages, the indictment stated.

“For the express intent of setting him up to be robbed,” the indictment added.

The botched armed robbery took place April 5, at 7290 Southlake Parkway, Marquis at Mount Zion Apartments in Morrow.

According to the arrest warrant, “the victim died of multiple gunshot wounds.”

Spratling and King are accused of trying to rob Brown at gunpoint. Brown was shot and killed prior to the completion of the actual robbery, according to Clayton County Police.

Mathis is also charged with criminal attempt of an armed robbery, she is accused of providing Brown’s contact information, and an access card which was used by Brown, which allowed him to enter the Marquis at Mount Zion Apartments in Morrow, where he was fatally shot.

Mathis, Spratling and King and the juvenile are charged with felony murder, armed robbery and Spratling and King have an additional charges of possession of a firearm and aggravated assault. King is also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
