RIVERDALE — One team was looking for a breakthrough and the other looking for a bounce back Friday night at Southern Crescent Stadium. But Kamhad Magwood was looking for the end zone and found it for four touchdowns, including the final two of a wild second quarter in a 52-36 win over Eagle’s Landing.

The Raiders (4-1) rushed for 358 yards, with three backs gaining over 100 yards, led by Magwood’s 132 on 13 carries.

“It all started up front,” Magwood said. “The O-line got their blocks and I just ran hard.”

After Eagle’s Landing (0-5) evened the score at 14 apiece on a 79-yard hook ‘n’ ladder that went from Bradley Dewberry to Warren Wright to Corey Holloway, Magwood took charge. First, he blocked a punt that gave Riverdale the ball at the Golden Eagles 16. He then ended the drive with a 2-yard touchdown run to give the Raiders a 20-14 lead.

The next time Eagle’s Landing faced a punting situation, it attempted a fake. However, Dewberry’s pass went off the hands of Wright and Riverdale took over at the Golden Eagles’ 32. This time, Magwood punctuated the ensuing drive by scoring a 21-yard touchdown off a jet sweep.

“We have a young punter,” Eagle’s Landing head coach Joe Teknipp said, explaining his decision to go for the fake. “I don’t know if he understands the urgency of getting the ball off. At that point in time, there wasn’t a lot of confidence that we were going to get it off.”

Deon Jones added 111 yards on six carries and a touchdown and Ti’Keem Cooper rushed for 106 yards on 17 carries and one touchdown, as Riverdale rebounded from a 38-0 loss to Dutchtown.

Offensively, it was what Riverdale head coach Olten Downs wanted to see.

“We did a great job running the ball,” Downs said. “That was definitely [what] we wanted. We got to shore some things up defensively.”

For Eagle’s Landing, it was another thrilling loss. The Golden Eagles lost their first three games by an average of seven points, before falling in a valiant effort to then-No. 8 Jonesboro by 24 points.

“We’re exciting. We’re a great ticket to come and watch,” said Teknipp. “We can play nine great plays but one play can put us behind the eight-ball.”

Holloway finished the game with 20 carries for 153 yards and a touchdown for Eagle’s Landing. He also had 80 yards on three receptions.

Dewberry completed 19 of 34 passes for 243 yards and two touchdowns and ran for two more touchdowns.
