JONESBORO — Equipped with strong academic skills, Da Famous Boyzz will serve as peer mentors for Point South Middle School’s CRCT rally, Friday, April 5, at 10 a.m.

“It’s a good way to give them a break and do something positive,” said Famous Boyzz band member Just Jr., a.ka. Branden Barkley.

Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests are a set of tests administered at public schools in the state of Georgia designed to test the knowledge of first and eighth graders in various subjects.

Pointe South Middle School, located at 8495 Thomas Road, Jonesboro, is offering a CRCT boot camp in hopes of boosting test scores.

Principal Dean Lillard hopes that this year’s theme, “Touching the Test,” will encourage students to think critically through each question with confidence. Da Famous Boyzz recognize the importance of a solid education and are striving to empower and encourage students through the message of their initiative, Operation SO.

The group is made up of four Dutchtown High School seniors: “FliBoy Ace” Malik Ashley, “Rico Reese” Michael Blecher, “Just Jr.” Branden Barkley and “Dae Dae” David Bishop Jr.

Don’t Fit In? Stand Out! is a global movement that encourages youth to stand out in every area of life. Da Famous Boyzz want youth to start by building their character through service within the community and taking on leadership positions. Youth are encouraged to stand out in education, fashion and music through the program.
