— Sometimes you just have to fight something big with something equally big.

Metro Atlanta has suffered in recent years from a major downturn in the national economy. U.S. Congressman David Scott (D-Ga.) has responded each year with his annual jobs fair at the Georgia International Convention Center. It has traditionally drawn large crowds of job seekers and traffic from the event usually clogs Camp Creek Parkway.

This year may prove to be no different with 88 employers expected to participate. Officials from Scott’s office said those employers will be looking to fill more than 1,681 positions.

Scott’s 10th Annual 13th Congressional District Jobs Fair will be held April 19 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the convention center at 2000 Convention Center Concourse in College Park.

As the date of the event looms on the horizon, unemployed residents from across metro Atlanta will likely be busy freshening up their resume — if they haven’t done so already — for the opportunity to find a job.

Participating employers are expected to include: AT& T; the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention; Clayton County Water Authority; Comcast Corporation; CSX Transportation; DeVry University; Fulton County government; Gate Gourmet; Georgia Power Co.; Global Media Empire; Grady Health System; Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport; Kroger; Lowe’s; MARTA; Porsche Cars North America; Radio One Atlanta; the Home Depot; UPS; U.S. Department of Defense; U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs; U.S. Peace Corps and Waffle House.

Banks and financial services companies who are expected to also have representatives include Bank of America, GEL Financial Services, LLC, Primerica Financial Services, Regions Financial Corporation and Wells Fargo.

The list of employers also contains the names of several local and federal public safety agencies.

They include the Atlanta Police Department, Columbus Police Department, Douglas County Fire and EMS Department, Douglasville Police, U.S. Air Marshals, the FBI, Fulton County Schools Police, Gwinnett County Police Department, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the U.S. Transportation Security Administration.

Officials from Scott’s office are recommending attendees go to Hartsfield-Jackson and use the airport’s SkyTrain to get to the convention center. MARTA will also operate a special shuttle bus service between its College Park station and the center.

He shows up every year for a Jo s fair, and a free health clinic. The rest of the year he just rides along enjoying living on the taxpayers.

Look at the number of employers that are government. Department of Defense, US Air Marshall's, FBI, Customs and Border, FBI. TSA, Department of Veterans Affairs etc..

I thought this country was supposed to be under a sequester? Mandatory spending cuts. Reducing the size of government. Saving the taxpayers.Reducing our debt.

Yet our Democratic politicians want to keep on spending money the government doesn't have. They say one thing to get the votes that keep their job, but do something entirely different.

And the people in David Scott's district fall for it every 6 years. When are they going to wake up?
