John Allen Dagley, 60, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2013, from complications of diabetes. The son of the late John and Sue Dagley, he was born in Greenville, S.C., on Oct. 17, 1952. He was preceded in death by his ex-wife, Hattie McMillion, and is survived by his beloved son, EJ Dagley of Hampton; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia and James Blackstock of Angleton, Texas and Shirley and Steve Walker of Canton, Ga.; brother, David Dagley of College Park; six nephews and one niece; as well as an uncle, several aunts, and cousins.

John graduated from North Clayton High School and studied journalism at Georgia State University. He was a gifted writer and award-winning journalist. He worked for The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer for many years. Conservation was a lifelong passion. He enjoyed and found solace in canoeing, camping and hiking.

A service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, April 6, at noon. Dress comfortably and join John’s family and friends at Panola Mountain State Park Picnic Pavilion #3. The family requests no flowers; donations may be made to JDRF to support the effort to cure, treat and prevent type 1 diabetes (26 Broadway, 14th Floor New York, N.Y. 10004) or to the Pine Mountain Trail Association (P.O.
