JONESBORO — A Forest Park man identified in a girl's diary stands trial this week for murder in her death.

Marshae O'Brian Hickman, 21, is being held without bond in the Clayton County Jail since his May arrest in the death of Candice Parchment, 15. Parchment went missing April 28, 2010, and her body was found about seven months later in the woods under a mattress off Old Dixie Highway in Forest Park.

About a year later, her mother found Parchment's diary containing Hickman's name as one of two teenagers who allegedly tried to rape her in January 2010.

The diary was turned over to police who discovered that Hickman was in the Clayton County Jail on a burglary charge. Police said he gave a statement about what allegedly happened to Parchment and he was charged with murder.

The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Bill Dixon and Senior Assistant District Attorney Michael Thurston.

Jury selection began Monday and is expected to continue Tuesday morning in Clayton County Superior Court Chief Judge Deborah Benefield's courtroom. Hickman is being represented by Ashley Palmer.
