Lovejoy Mayor Bobby Cartwright (standing right) takes part in the city’s 2012 Block Party series.
LOVEJOY — Organizers are expecting sunny skies and mild weather Saturday to kick off Lovejoy’s Third Annual Block Party series.
“We just want everyone to come out and have fun,” said Lovejoy police Chief Michael Harris.
The series is a monthly community gathering with free food and games in Mayor’s Park, 11620 Hastings Bridge Road.
Each city council member plans to host one party in the series through August as an appreciation to the city’s residents and businesses.
Lovejoy is the southernmost municipality in Clayton County, with a population of roughly 5,000.
“We normally have a pretty good turnout,” said Harris.
He expects attendance to surpass 200 people Saturday as it did in 2012. The party is from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.
“I normally do the cooking,” he said.
Harris and Lovejoy police Sgt. Michael Gaddis plan to grill hot dogs and hamburgers for the free event. Future block parties are set for May 11, June 8, July 13 and Aug. 10.
