MORROW — The Clayton County Water Authority’s Finance Department has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the nonprofit Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.
Marie Barber is chair of the authority’s board of directors. She praised the board and staff for earning the recognition.
“Our board members and staff work hard to be good stewards of our financial resources,” said Barber. “This award reflects our finance department’s commitment to communicate our financial activity in a comprehensive way that is easy to understand.”
Authority spokeswoman Suzanne Brown said Clayton County’s comprehensive annual financial report is judged annually by an impartial panel to determine if it meets the association’s standards.
Its certificate of achievement recognizes the authority’s reporting for its fiscal year April 30, 2012. That year included roughly $78 million in operating expenses, down from $81 million in 2011, according to data from the annual report.
Brown said this is the 26th consecutive year the authority has received the national honor, which is also the association’s highest recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.
The authority’s board meets the first Thursday of each month. Its next meeting is May 2 from 1:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. at Shamrock Community Use Building, 2610 Shamrock Road in Jonesboro.
