Lovejoy’s block party at Mayor’s Park featured food, music and games for children.
LOVEJOY — Residents kept the lunch line filled out as they trickled into the outdoor pavilion.
Some children played in an inflatable castle nearby while older children looked for a game of basketball next door. They were taking part in the first installment of the Third Annual Block Party series in Lovejoy.
Christi Krieg was there with her child and her friend’s children. She said it was her first time at one of the city-sponsored block parties.
“The kids are having fun and it’s a beautiful day,” said Krieg.
The sun beamed down on attendees walking the small track surrounding the pond at Mayor’s Park. Other families took refuge in the shade beneath the park’s trees.
City councilwoman Rebekah Holland Wright greeted residents in the park’s gazebo. The Post 3 representative was the event’s banner host.
“This is just our way of giving back to our citizens,” said Wright.
Each city council member plans to host one party in the series through August as an appreciation to the city’s residents and businesses. Future block parties are set for May 11, June 8, July 13 and Aug. 10.
