Jonesboro needs ‘Comcast Cares Day’ volunteers

— Wanted: Hardworking, dedicated volunteers in the City of Jonesboro.

Reward: A nice, clean rose garden for residents to look at.

The city is in dire need of residents willing to volunteer Saturday to help clean up the town’s newly inherited memorial rose garden at 168 North McDonough St. for Comcast Cares Day.

Volunteers will be installing some new rose bushes at the garden and cleaning up the area. Southern Crescent Comcast employees will helping residents clean up the garden, which was given as a gift to the city last by Ab Dixon, former owner of Pope Dixon Funeral Home.

Dixon maintained the garden for several years as a memorial and final resting place for babies who were stillborn at Southern Regional Medical Center.

Volunteers will gather at Lee Street Elementary School, 178 Lee St., at 8 a.m., and head over to the garden at 9:15 a.m. Residents interested in volunteering for the project is asked to contact City Councilwoman Pat Sebo in advance at 770-471-8386 or by Email at psebo@jonesboroga.com.
