Mr. John William McGinnis, age 85, of Jonesboro, Ga., passed away April 22, 2013. He was born Feb. 5, 1928, in Murray, Ga. He served in the Army from 1946-1947. He was an avid car lover and admired horses. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Glenner McGinnis of Calhoun; daughter Patricia Diane McGinnis; and brother Troy McGinnis of Calhoun. He is survived by his wife, Rachel Powell McGinnis of Jonesboro; children Hal (Sheryl) McGinnis of Jonesboro, Nancy (Eddie) Jones of Forest Park; brothers James (Romulus) McGinnis, Vernon McGinnis, Jerry McGinnis all of Calhoun; sisters Ann (Bill) Ayers, Alma Padgett, Debbie (Gary) Mulkey all of Calhoun; grandchildren TJ (Melissa) McGinnis, Tyler McGinnis, Amanda McGinnis, Ashley, Jessica and Josh Jones; great-grandchildren William, Carter, Adam and Samuel McGinnis. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 25, at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro Worship Center. He will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church. Dr. Charles Q. Carter and Rev. Irvin Pearre will officiate. Interment will be at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens in Forest Park.
