Noah’s Ark in charity competition

LOCUST GROVE — Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary relies on community donations.

The nonprofit sanctuary — home to more than 1,000 abused, orphaned or neglected exotic and domestic animals — pays an estimated $33,000 per month to feed, treat and care for its animals, said Logan Moses of Golin Harris in Atlanta.

Moses spoke on behalf of the organization about an opportunity to quickly earn thousands in donations.

Dragon*Con recently announced it will match every dollar raised up to $50,000 for one of five local charities who wins its online charity poll.

The charities include the Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary in Locust Grove; Sheltering Arms for Kids, which has a Jonesboro center; The Salvation Army in Atlanta; the Marcus Autism Center in Atlanta; and the Georgia Conservancy in Atlanta.

The charity that receives the most votes will receive 50 percent of the monies raised at the show and 50 percent of the company match. The runner-up charity will receive 30 percent of the proceeds and the third-place charity will receive 20 percent. The fourth- and fifth-place charities will receive a $10,000 cash donation.

To participate, voters can visit www.dragoncon.org and search for “charity poll.”

Voting is only allowed once daily and ends at midnight April 28. The results will be announced May 1.
