FOREST PARK — A graduate of Clayton County Public Schools has been tapped by President Barack Obama to serve as Commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Europe.

Air Force Gen. Philip Breedlove is a 1974 graduate of Forest Park High School.

Breedlove earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and master’s degrees from Arizona State University and the National War College at Fort Lesley in Washington, D.C.

“This is just another example of how students from Clayton County can, and do go on to accomplish great things,” said Forest Park High Principal Derrick Manning. “There is no end to that Panther Pride.”

Breedlove has had a career of honors that include the Distinguished Service Metal and the Defense Superior Service Metal.

He was commander of U.S. Air Forces in Europe; commander of U.S. Air Forces in Africa, commander of Air Component Command, Ramstein; and director of the Joint Air Power Competence Centre in Kalkar, Germany.
