Police investigate triple shooting in Rex

By Kathy Jefcoats

JONESBORO — Clayton County police are looking for at least one suspect in a triple shooting that left a person dead behind a Rex convenience store.

Sgt. Kevin Hughes said Keith Andre Davis of Rex and Sheldon Derrell Thomas of Atlanta were injured in the 8 p.m. shooting in the woods behind Texaco on Ga. 42. A third victim, who has not been identified pending notification of the next of kin, died, he said.

Hughes said officers responded to the area in reference to shots fired in the woods behind the store. The Texaco fronts the Mill Mobile Home Community near I-675.

The shooting location is about a half-mile from where Clayton County police set up a mobile command center April 10 as part of a joint operation with the Clayton County Sheriff's Office to serve criminal warrants in Rex and Ellenwood.

Hughes said Davis and Thomas were alert and conscious when officers arrived. The third victim was non-responsive. Davis was transported by helicopter and Thomas by ambulance, both to Atlanta Medical Center.

Police have not made an arrest in the shooting and there is no information on a suspect or suspects.

Hughes said anyone with information should contact Clayton County police Major Felony Crimes Unit Detective Travis Lewis at 678-610-4711.
