Superintendent gets contract extension

JONESBORO — The Clayton County Board of Education voted Monday, 9-3, to extend the contract of Interim Superintendent Luvenia Jackson until Dec. 31, 2014.

School spokesman David Waller said the extension did not include a pay increase.

He said the superintendent’s current contract would have expired on Sept. 30. It can be terminated by either party with 60 days notice.

Board members Mark Christmas of District 2, Jessie Goree of District 3 and Michael King of District 4 opposed the measure.

Waller said the extension was handled as a personnel matter in executive session, so there was no discussion during Monday’s public work session.
