Four jailed in Clayton County after alleged carjacking

JONESBORO — Four men are being held without bond in the Clayton County Jail Friday night after being arrested following a Fulton County alleged carjacking, said police.

Cameron Pitts, 18, of Atlanta; Dauntavius Hardeman, 18, of Austell; Deonte Eppinger, 17, of Riverdale and D’Antra Collins, 17, Morrow were arrested early Friday evening, said Officer Charlene Watson-Fraser.

Watson-Fraser said a Clayton County police SMASH Unit vehicle equipped with a tag-reading device got a stolen “hit” on a white 1996 Honda Accord occupied by four young men about 3:50 p.m. She said the car had been reported stolen out of Fulton County.

The SMASH Unit officer tried to initiate a traffic stop but the driver refused to pull over, she said. The Honda pulled into the Chick-fil-A parking lot at 6549 Ga. 85 in Riverdale where three of the men ran while one stayed with the car, said Watson-Fraser.

Three SMASH Unit officers and two patrol officers pursued the suspects on foot and caught them without further incident, she said.

Pitts was identified as the driver, said police, and he has been charged with theft by receiving a motor vehicle, obstruction of an officer, driving without a license, reckless driving, financial transaction card fraud, identity fraud and theft of lost or mislaid property.

Hardeman, Eppinger and Collins were charged with theft by receiving a motor vehicle and obstruction of an officer.

Watson-Fraser said the four were taken to the North Precinct for questioning and then to the Clayton County Jail. They are expected to make their first appearances in Clayton County Magistrate Court at 9 a.m. Saturday.
