Teams from around the state were allowed to put on full pads last week after a five-day mandatory conditioning period by the Georgia High School Association. This was the first time teams could don full pads since spring practice in May. Most didn’t waste time getting used to the pads as players engaged in one-on-one drills and most coahes threw in a scrimmage to the delight of the players. Sports editor Derrick Mahone was at Mount Zion and Riverdale practices as they put the pads on for the first time and engaged in a little contact.
