JONESBORO — Cliff Clark is starting Christmas early this year.
His tattoo shop, Hollyweird Tattooz, already has a tree up, garland and holiday lights, plus several toys underneath the tree.
Clark and his crew have begun their Toys for Tatz toy collection for the Toys for Tots program.
They’re hoping to break their 2012 record of 1,100 toys by collecting 3,000 this year.
“Christmas only comes once a year and some kids find out way too early there’s no Santa Claus,” Clark said. “I want them to have a good Christmas.”
Clark said he had nice holidays as a child, but that his mother had to work three jobs to make ends meet.
“It’s heartbreaking for parents when they have to tell their kids they can’t afford toys,” Clark said
So to help make childrens holidays a little brighter he’s offering a $40 tattoo or a tattoo voucher if a customer brings in a new $20 unopened toy now through Dec. 23. The donation must come with a receipt.
“Our $40 tattoos are about the size of a business card, so it’s a great deal,” Clark said.
Working with him on the project are fellow tattoo artists Jeff Seagraves and Jaelyn Duh.
“I think this program is awesome,” Duh said. “It’s a good way to give back to the community.”
Duh also pointed out it’s a great way to shatter peoples notions about tattoo artists and their shops.
“Coming in here will give them a whole new perspective,” she said.
Clark has owned his shop for seven years and has tattooed hundreds of people including music industry stars and some of Atlanta’s own Braves players.
“Even as a young kid, I loved tattoos,” Clark said. “I started doodling at five-years-old and knew what I wanted to do.”
Hollyweird Tattooz is open Monday-Thursday from 12 p.m. until 10 p.m., Friday-Saturday 12 p.m. until 12 a.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. until 9 p.m.
Clark recommends stopping by the shop to make an appointment or giving them a call to set one up.
“Sometimes we take walk-ins, but the shop is usually pretty busy,” he said.
Customers can donate one toy per day to receive one tattoo. Clark is also offering vouchers for family or friends.
“If someone wants to come in and give a toy we’ll give them a $40 voucher to give to someone else,” Clark said.
Don’t want a tattoo? Clark is also offering a single-body piercings for a $20 new toy.
The shop is located at 569 Georgia 138 in Jonesboro. Call 770-472-4202 to make an appointment. They can also be found at www.facebook.com/thehollyweird
