Lovejoy block party, dedication Saturday

LOVEJOY — The city of Lovejoy will sponsor the last event in its 2013 Summer Block Party Series Saturday.

Councilman Tommy Green will host the party from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Mayor’s Park, 11622 Hastings Bridge Road. It will include free food and drinks, giveaways and music.

There will also be a brief dedication ceremony for the city’s new Veterans Memorial Monument at 1:30 p.m., said spokeswoman Kaycia Rhone. The granite monument, which cost about $6,500 to erect, was built to honor all members of the U.S. armed forces.

As the summer series comes to a close, officials are already planning fall activities for the city.

Lovejoy’s Fall Fest is Sept. 14 at the Lovejoy Community Center and Mayor’s Park, 11622 Hastings Bridge Road.

The event will feature live music, games, giveaways, pony rides, a petting zoo and a photo booth, said Rhone. Admission and parking will be free.
